Level 4 Royal Conservatory of Music: YouTube videos for Lists A, B, C and Studies

These YouTube Playlists correspond with the pieces printed in The Royal Conservatory of Music’s Celebration Series Sixth Edition, Level 4.

RCM Level 4 consists of two volumes.

The Piano Repertoire book contains three lists of music:

  • List A has Baroque Repertoire.
  • List B, Classical and Classical-style Repertoire.
  • List C, Romantic, 20th-, and 21st-century Repertoire. Teachers have the option of substituting a ‘Teacher’s Choice’ selection for List C.

The Etudes book contains 16 pieces (one or two pages each) that address technical development in a fun way for this Intermediate level.

Helpful hints:

To make it easy to listen through the volumes, these playlists are presented in the order that the music is printed in the books.

However, if you’d prefer to listen to just one title, click on the link or image given in each section. This will take you to the playlist in YouTube, where you will be able to listen to just one video.

These videos were chosen to help you get a sense of each piece.

You may need to adjust the volume at times, as the recordings may have different levels.

      Level 4 List A

      Baroque Repertoire.

It was admittedly difficult to find a good recording of the first piece (Minuet BWV Anh. 132). Many interpretations include more ornaments than most students can handle in Level 4, and some recordings include the measure 11 typo in RCM’s book. In the interest of simplicity and accuracy, I went with the video you see here.

Etudes are a mix between technical exercises (like scales) and longer pieces. Each etude is based on one piano skill and helps you learn it in a short and often really fun piece.

      Feedback

Because I’m using content developed by others, occasionally it will get deleted by the original creator. It will be impossible for me to keep track of it all, so if you notice that a piece has suddenly gone missing from a playlist, please contact me! I’ll find a replacement lickety-split!

      Video of the Week

Cold Snap! (Intermediate, Level 4) is a jazzy little number characterized by an infectious Cuban clave rhythm 1-2-3 / 1-2-3 / 1-2 with syncopations and the percussive effect of snapping fingers. The name of the piece is a pun. In cold climates like mine in Canada, there can be ‘cold snaps’ in the winter — periods of time during which the temperature plummets well below the average. Available as the studio-licensed Cold Snap! eSheet!
